The so-called 'invincible' 2/3 majority since 1969 have been broken!!!! YESSSSSS!!!! It was a major breakthrough for the Opposition to really show to the people that the democracy is this country is still alive. On top of that, the unprecedented loss of not one, not two, not even three but FIVE states indicated that BN is not unbeatable after all. States like Penang, Selangor, Kedah and Perak together with Kelantan fell to the Opposition parties of DAP, PKR and PAS. How sweet!!!

For once, the ruling government finally realised that the rakyat is the BOSS, not them. For the past few decades, the BN political party has strutting around with their devil may care attitude towards the rakyat, displaying their sheer arrogance and intolerance towards any form of dissent, no matter how legitimate it was. It was the rakyat who put them up there and it will be the rakyat who can bring them down. The BN politicians can't go around acting as if they owned this country.

Say no racial politics!! The new political landscape in Malaysia points towards a culture of multiracialism in which Malaysians, cutting across race and religions should work together to build this beloved country of ours. We do not political parties to only fight for the rights and interest of a particular race at the expense of another. Together as Malaysians we should stand tall and fight for a better and competitive Malaysia in facing the challenge of globalisation in the 21st century. We have the Barisan Rakyat.

I am simply ecstatic!! I am thrilled to bits!! We should look forward not backwards. Weed out the corruption, incompetence,negligence, abuses of power practiced by the previous regime. It is too long to list. ..With a new lineup in Selangor, Perak, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan state government, let this be a start for better things to come.

This is NOT the Jap mini-series starring Richard Chamberlain aired in the 80s, with Japs warlords and maidens speaking perfect English, and a shipwrecked sailor trying to build his connections.

The Shogun is rather a Jap buffet restaurant at 1-Utama New Wing. Pigging out again although this round it is more controlled, only had 3 rounds with miniscule portions of the dishes tried.

The selection was huge. Basically we were spoiled for choice. Yummy yummy

Cant name most of the food available, the word of the day,just whack only-lah..!

Dinner was organised to celebrate the end of the 6 months of nerve wracking months of research training, the first three was just training per se..comparatively..it was the 2nd 3 months that wore us down psychologically. Having to wait wait wait for our turn to present was more tortuous than the attending part..

Basically six of us were thoroughly satisfied. Damage was about RM60nett per person

As we are gearing up to celebrate our 50th National Day, there is yet another round of divisive talk from the 'informed' Information Minister. It has become sort of a daily affair.

He was commenting on the statements made by Dr Lim Keng Yaik on the Sun newspaper being the only newspaper that champions the idea of Bangsa Malaysia whereas other dailies are being communal in their writings and favour certain races.

Now what is wrong with that, Mr Information Minister? Aren't we supposed to moving towards that goal? Are you saying that the newspapers should only be a mouthpiece of a particular group.

One day before the Merdeka eve, instead of promoting integration ,we are still hearing about all this talk about divisiveness and communal politics, and the best part is :

it is the someone form the top who is spewing all these rubbish.

Football in Malaysia.

Another year, another tournament, another debacle.

The list seems to be endless. Foreign coaches come and go. But still failed to lift Malaysian football out of the doldrums it is deeply entrenched. Not even Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho can help if the management sucks big time.

When I was young, I remember we can compete evenly with South Korea, drawing 1-1 in the Merdeka Tournament in 1985 or 1986 and we beat Japan 2-1 in the same tournament. The match was live on TV. Even in 1989, we nearly qualified for the second round of qualification in the World Cup, holding the mighty Saudi Arabia beforing losing out at Riyadh.

Before castigating the players and coach whom I think they have given their best, look at the setup..royalty and politicians running the show. They are not even players...
How much do they know about football management? Probably it is their pastime..nothing to do..hey..let's take charge of the football team.

Pigging out at Saisaki's

Last Saturday, decided to indulge ourselves in some Japanese delights. Venue: The much talked-about Saisaki Buffet in the heart of KL's Golden Triangle. Just situated right behind my former office.

Whoa...this is the best spread of buffet I have tried. The selection, the ambience, the service, the location and the price baffled me.No wonder the crowd is always there.

The selection was awesome, a fusion of local, Chinese and Japanese cuisine.

Apart from the usual sushis, sashimis, teppanyakis, they even have Peking Duck, sharks' fin soup to satisfy our tastebuds.

For a session of pigging out, it costs only RM48.00++ a person. It's a steal.

Walking in without a reservation is definite no-no.

There was this uncle in front of me, asking the reception repeatedly. "No place already ah.., really no place ah.."Man, of course not. C'mon this is a Saturday evening.

Had to go n evening to 'expedite' the digestion..

Enjoyable evening no doubt, save for the rain.

Went for this movie The Sinking of Japan, the special effects are good but sti of ll unable rival the American CGI effects. Pretty much expected storyline. Cliched. One man's heroic effort to save the mankind, the Japanese of course.

In the middle, the story gets draggy and a bit melodramatic at the end. A must for disaster movies, I guess

they think that their right to plunder is eroding
the leader is deemed powerless to do anything to stop them
the future of oneself and one's family interest is at stake
they know that fellow looters like themselves will be offering thumping support for them, albeit fake
they are desperate to hold on to what they have (having known that their cover had been blown)
they had to canvas for support by playing the racist card

They will say things like:

We will not allow others to question our right
When the battle comes, the blood of the warriors will run in our veins
We will engage in bloodbath to protect our rights
When is he going to use the weapon...whoa..Braveheart

But I am sure of one thing:
When the going gets really rough, I bet these people will be the first to leave, of course with their loot to go far far away..All talk and no substance

We are a peaceful lot, ekeing out an honest living, living in harmony with our brothers and sisters although we belong to multitude of diverse race, religion and social backgrounds. We share our joy and laughter, sorrow and anguish..

Why would these self-serving politicians resort to name calling, blame game, looking for scapegoats for their failures?

A giant swimming pool

Continuous rainfall turned Bukit Rimau/Chinese Taipeh School area into a swimming pool, cutting off access for residents going into, going out of Berjaya Park and the area in the vicinity. Turning back, motorists head for Kesas, hoping to get back into Berjaya Park/ Bukit Rimau area via Jalan Kebun, after paying the atrocious RM1.50 toll. Still, just before the toll booths.. the massive 5-lane had turned into a single-lane carriageway with the entire 4 lanes on the left were submerged in murky teh tarik flood water causing a massive traffic jam at the toll booths. Motorists had to squeeze to the extreme right.

Each time there is a massive downpour, people are not spared.Hardships and inconvenience. Development without proper planning, poor drainage systems are all hallmarks of a poor Local Council. Where have all the money gone to? To build palaces of councillors. Well done.

For the first, I am blogging from outside my home or office. It was not smooth sailing either to start off. First, it was at Ming Tien the signal was too weak.
Then, proceeded to Secret Recipe , the manager was giving me wrong info about having to buy a subscription coupon or something. This awful little Time Zone website came up each time ( I need to register to get to surf online).Then moved to Starbucks at which the waiter told me that I just need to register. Registration process was a hassle..then successful..(then i didn't wait for about 2-5 minutes), i logged on straightaway..Error occurred..login not valid..what the hell..I thought I just gave my particulars and stuff..what's next..
Thinking that the login screwed..filled up my particulars again..inserted my usual login name **error** name had been used damn..so I put my alternate name with a number suffix..beep ,,Now what???!! I m getting annoyed..Error IC No had been used..
Damn damn..
Then probably the 5-10 minutes activation was up,,one last try...type in my first username..connection successful!!..1.5 hours in total..trying to connect..finally it came to a fruitful end. Wanted to buy eveybody a drink..after 2nd thoughts..nay, do not want to contribute to the inflation rate..
Here i am now.together with an uncle sitting next to me..staring at the screen with fingers dancing on the keyboard, plugging away into cyberspace..the greatest invention mankind has ever made..

Well, for all Liverpool fans around the globe, the last few weeks have not been favourable, well I can testify that it is bordering on traumatic.
Dropped points, low in confidence, defence is operating like a sieve, leaking goals in every match, championship slipping further, Mau Utd doing well..and so forth
Not a good sign when you have a negative goal difference.

The gaffer tinkers a lot with the players, he needs to rotate them to keep them sharp and fresh. Good idea but It is hard to tinker when consistency is not there.

They just need to be more physical and not allowing the opponents to disrupt the rhythm of the play.
Please...get back to your winning ways..

Farewell to The Chief

Our most Venerable Chief Reverend,Dr K. Sri Dhammananda Maha Nayaka Thera was cremated yesterday afternoon in a solemn ceremony steeped in Buddhist tradition.
I had the chance to witness the event as I travelled with the Kota Kemuning Buddhist Centre entourage to Semenyih Nilai Memorial Park.
Before that, Chief's body was lying in state at Brickfield's Buddhist Maha Vihara since Thursday, when he was brought back from Subang Jaya Medical Centre where he breathed his last.

Ten of thousands went to the Maha Vihara, tears were welling in the eyes of the devotees as the eulogies were delivered. Two of the presidents of the societies closest to him, Sasana Abiwurdhi Wardana and Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia, Sarath W Surendre and Ang Choo Hong were seen desperately fighting back their tears, trying hard to contain their sorrow as they delivered their eulogies. I understood how they felt. When I received the SMS from my brother on Thursday afternnon at 3.30pm informing about his passing, I was shaken and felt a sudden sense of remorse.

People are not supposed to be sad.

People are supposed to be happy for him, for he has contributed greatly to the Buddha Sasana and the time is ripe for him to leave this world and enjoyed the nibbanic bliss. We know that this day is forthcoming. Birth, sickness, old age,and death are part and parcel of the cycle in Samsara. But somehow, the Buddhist community will miss him dearly.
Mood was solemn, people were silently grieving for this man we fondly called Chief. Perhaps there was not a soul at the temple who were not touched by this great man.

Voting Based on Conscience Not Allowed

If our elected representatives are not even allowed to exercise their right and to make their own stand on certain issues, then why is there a need for someone to attend the Parliament sitting?
THEY MIGHT AS WELL AS STAY AT HOME! Do not and will not discuss and debate, what is the point of stating your viewpoints when you know you have to follow the decision of the Whip?

If there are any issues to be debated, the Barisan Nasional backbenchers would have a standing instruction( like the Standing Order used in the banks) to

i. support any motion tabled by the ruling party a.k.a their bosses
ii. reject everything else as long as they do not come from the ruling party

Therefore, there is more to the reason why we should strengthen the Opposition.

The Importance of Being Able To Communicate Well

In February, I had the chance to go to a Bazaar in Pattaya.

Was looking and saw a shoplot selling textile and they too provided tailoring services. A man in his late 30's I suppose, of an Indian-Thai descent came up to me with a broad smile, apparently welcoming me using his gestures.
I returned his smile..(being polite)

Then , speaking in an accented but clear and crisp voice,
he blurted out, 'Is there anything that you want to buy from my shop?'

At that moment, I was taken aback at his words. What a bad choice of words!!
It is like saying, 'Is there anything I can sell to you, you gullible tourist?'
I felt like...hey man, am I obligated to come in and buy something as if it's the law that we have to buy something from you?
How atrocious..I didn't respond to him and just walked straight. Told myself, I will not buy anything from your shop even I have the chance to the next time.

Look, I am not obligated to buy anything from you, I am not even obligated to look around you silly little shop..
Can you find something to say? If you don't have anything to say, just keep your mouth shut and at least people won't get annoyed.

A polite and affable way of saying would be,
"Good afternoon sir, would you like to come in and have a look? And if you have seen something that you fancy, I would be pleased to be of help. "
Sounds much better right???

That's why, good communication skills are very important. It has been said that everyone is in customer service. Period.

Thomas Cup Fever

We used to huddle in front of the tv till midnight, cheering our shuttlers on, shouting on top of our voices, cheering for every point won and the opponents mistakes...

In the days of the yore, we have heroes like Cheah Soon Kit, Soo Beng Kiang, Rashid Sidek, the ever repressible Foo Kok Keong with his never say die antics on court, the Sidek brothers giving us the excitement, making your pulse race like there is no tomorrow till midnight..they toiled and sweat..making sure that the coveted Thomas Cup belongs to Malaysia again after the lapse of 35 years. At that time, it was in 1992.

I was virtually on the edge of my seat, holding my breath at the point when Cheah Soon Kit served at match point and finally Soo Beng Kiang sealing the deciding match with Rexy Mainaky-Ricky Subagja with a jumping smash..it was euphoric!!!

Fast forward 16 years later, I am not even in my 20s anymore, most of the players have developed a pot-belly and some well into their forties. Some have left the badminton fraternity altogether, some remained as coaches. Yap Kim Hock is the chief coach now, Cheah Soon Kit is in charge of the ladies doubles. How time have changed.

Now the Thomas Cup fever is coming back, this time Malaysia have the best chance of wresting the trophy back from China, given the promising current line-up. We have Lee Chong Wei, Wong Choong Hann, Muhd Hafiz, Chan Choong Ming-Koo Kien Keat, Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah. An impressive line-up indeed. A well-established and well-balanced squad with a number of international Open titles under their belts.

But the greatest satisfaction is not only about winning the cup..The greatest satisfaction would be to beat our old enemy Indonesia 5-0 and win the cup. Don't know why, but I feel other Malaysians would share my sentiment that beating Indonesia would be the best feeling one could get apart from winning. I'd just love it if we could kick the Indonesian asses.

Not even the thought of beating China, Denmark or South Korea would come close.
Maybe it is the animosity between the two countries in sports or is it the close ties that we have over the years or their players have beating ours for donkey years in many tournaments.

And it is up to the current batch to put them back in their own place. They used to be formidable, but not anymore now. Last time , they had Alan Budi Kusuma, Ardy Wiranata, Hermawan Susanto, Joko Suprianto, Edy Hartono & Gunawan, Rexy-Ricky and later on they had Hendrawan, Hariyanto Arbi..a team that would strike fear into any opponents.

Now, they still have Taufik Hidayat and the formidable double pairs of Sigit-Chandra Wijaya, Luluk-Alven, and new pair of Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan.

Trust me, these fellas can rise to the occasion.

Hopefully ours can too. I smell blood..

Guys,
Go and win the Cup. Bring it back to Malaysia after 16 years but don't forget to beat Indonesia along the way!!!!

Not bad for a Malaysian to have achieved such an honour.
The author Tash Aw was born in Taiwan, grew up in Malaysia but now based in London.
The story was built around the towns we are familiar of..Ipoh, Kampar, Sungai Siput, Teluk Anson..judging from the success of this novel, these names were made known throughout the world. The way of life depicted in the book was simple yet engaging, reminiscing of times when my grandmother's stories when I grew up. Poignant and beautifully written in simple English, this book is definitely worth reading.

A worldwide phenomenon- Da Vinci Code

Having read the book, now I know why it is a mega bestseller, 40 million copies sold since its publication in 2003, more or less made its author Dan Brown a multi millionaire.
The content of the book is controversially sensational, sensationally controversial. Never would I expected that it contained so much believable information ( even though it is fiction). The chase drama is something , A Matter of Honour by Jeffrey Archer and the Search for the Holy Grail is definitely something like Indiana Jones , Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade.
A wonderful reading indeed. There is a picture of the last supper, see the arrow pointing to a feminine figure, that could be Mary Magdalene sitting together with the Apostles. I have not noticed 'her' in the picture before.

Fuel Consumption

Today, I realised that my odometer showing the second last bar when I hit 406kms. This means that it will start blinking at 470km. It was the lowest in three months.

Usually, the mileage will go until 440km at the second last bar, and it starts blinking at 490km-500km. Fuel consumption has shrunk by 3okm.
The last time I had this experience was right after I sent this car for servicing. That's strange!
Wondering if I need to send my car for some clinical observation.

Post CNY Blues

Towards the end of last year, nearing December. People look forward to celebrating Christmas ( celebrating is just a proxy for slacking..for some, to do something that they do not have the opportunity to during normal times..but some do nothing and idling the time away),
fast forward....after the Merry-Christmas-to-you-and your-family SMS-fly abouts..then we look to have the New Year..again we are again bombarded with Happy-New-Year-to-you-and-your-family-may-the-new-year-be-happy-and-prosperous- wishes..again the medium, you guess right.... SMSes!!! after the new year..then the last of the celebration the Chinese New Year-hahaha...last reason to slack..( this year,,we did have Hari Raya Haji/Qurban/Aidil-adha, Maal Hijrah, FT Day public holidays sandwiched in between)..

Again the same story unfolds..plenty of SMS flying around,, (Maxis, DIGi and Celcom bosses and employees must be laughing their way to the bank)..plenty of merry-making, drinks both hard and soft, gambling..cards and mahjong sessions..(apparently the latter generated more criminal offence as 10 mahjong-playing senior citizens were dragged to the Kajang police station compared to the former),,angpows..road accidents, open houses, politicians doing their PR exercises and last night Pai Thnee Kong ('PTK' or Worship of the Jade Emperor Kong)..but last night I went to Thean Hou Kong ( a substitute for not being able to turn out for the PTK ceremony back at the hometown)

All good things come to an end..like today first day of work after the festivities..no long holidays to look forward until Thaipusam ( Selangor only) ..and gasp..Merdeka holidays to look forward to.
That's a memoir of the working life..apart from the year end bonus, these are something that keep most of us going on and on resiliently....for the sake of earning a living aka two meals a day..

A Day of Grief for Malaysians

At 10.55am, I was greeted by the news that the First Lady, Datin Seri Endon Mahmood had passed on. The entire nation, I am sure, will be saddened by her untimely demise even though it is known that she has beed diagnosed with cancer.
She is known to be a lady with grace and humility, complementing her husband, our Prime Minister.
My condolences to her family.

Again, Malaysians showed their 'beautiful' side by storming into LRT car before even allowing the passengers inside the car to alight. Don't you all have any etiquette?

Two months after the Monorail horror at Bukit Bintang, it seems that this event is happening everywhere and everyday all over Kuala Lumpur.

Can we do anything about it?

Four Heavenly Kings

In the late 80's and 90's, Hong Kong tends to be the breeding ground for Canto-pop superstars. Of all the superstars, four of them made it to the Hall of Fame, thus they are called the Four Heavenly Kings for their singing prowess, popularity and to a certain extent..their good looks.

In no particular order, they are
Jacky Cheung (my favourite..that's he is on top..)
Andy Lau
Leon Lai
Aaron Kwok ( least favourite)

Fast forward to Malaysia in the 90's and in the millenium, Malaysia has its Heavenly Kings, not in singing, acting, good looks...eeeekkkk...*puke* well they are far from the entertainment sphere..they are interested in making quick bucks by doing business ...what business..sure untung wan..nothing to lose wan..wanna know???
We present to you ....drum roll..

Malaysia's very own Four Heavenly "AP" Kings ( maybe in some particular order..)

1. Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin
2. Datuk Seri Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim
3. Datuk Mohd Haniff Abdul Aziz
4. Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad

Of the 67,158 APs (Approved Permits) given out last year, these four kings were given 80% of all APS. Each AP is selling at Rm20,000 to Rm30,000.

Just calculate how much these 'royalty' are earning..nett profit, sell APs and literally make tonnes of money..

Anything wrong with it?? Well..part of the policy , in line with creation of more B entrepreneurs.

Schools in Britain stopped using Failure to grade students, apparently the word is demeaning and demotivating..well, they may be right...so what word they used then??
Instead of failure, we have "deferred success"..i.e. success will come come eventually, it's just a matter of time.

Hmm.. I was thinking..what about:
1) defeat = deferred victory
2) sadness = deferred happiness
3) disappointment = deferred jubilation
4) illness = deferred health
5) false = deferred truth

hmmm...can you see the pattern?let me construct a formula negative adjective = deferred (inverse of negative adjective) A = deferred*B

A = negative adjectiveB = inverse of negative adjective or 1/A

hence, A/B = deferred, B/A*deferred = 1;

In conclusion, another variation of the formula B= 1/deferred * A;(deferred is a constant and can be used for all real numbers)

Example:happiness = 1/deferred sadnesssuccess = 1/deferred failure

Comeback Mission

The last time I blog was on 22 June, nearly a month ago.

I saw Vic and Amber Chia at 1Utama this afternoon, and Vic wore make-up. Well, stars have to look good, don't they. Too bad, didn't take any photo with him.

Day in day out, we have 'bomb'arded with news of suicide bombers, graft, gambling debts, murders..well, what's wrong with the world today. maybe if we go back to the Stone Age, we might have less problems. Fishing, hunting, collecting fruits in the jungle would definitely caused less human casualties. No doubt about that.

Managed to dig some info about that..Mr Allan Ong (rather Dr), the Chinese physician along Jalan Dang Wangi apparently claimed to have cured many of this. Wondering how true it is, a couple of testimonials from his cured patients seemed to have verified that..

The amazing thing was
some testimonials dated back to 1986, 1974..and one even dated on 1954!!! pre-independence days..wondering how old he was at that time? 2 possibilities, if he is, say 65 years of age today, he has to a boy genius..started to treat patients ever since he was a mere 14 years old in 1954!!!

Or he was 25 when he started curing people in 1954, this means that he is 74 years old today..a ripe old man ..An old man doing other jobs would be okay..but as a doctor..no no ..he would be unfit I guess..I wouldn't want anyone that age to treat me..let alone doing something as delicate as this..

Onsides n Offsides

In life, it's just like a football game, sometimes a perfectly onside pass is regarded as offside, thanks to the referee's blunder ( well, he is human anyway and humans make mistakes)...as expected, the side which have been denied that opportunity would cry foul.
Conversely, a blatantly offside pass can also be considered legitimate, resulting a goal to be scored, inviting controversy and a massive uproar of anger from the losing side ( the winning side will feign ignorance).
Whatever the outcome is, the decision is final. Remember Maradona's infamous 'Hand of God' goal in 1986 World Cup quarterfinal against England.Everybody but the referee saw how the goal was scored using his right fist. Despite the protests, the goal stood causing England to lose focus and lost the match and Argentina went on to win the World Cup. Should the goal have been disallowed, nobody would know how the outcome will be.
History shall remember the event as a gross error of judgement, but it will be still be something that invite conjectures of "what it might have been"but a fact is a fact,
In life, similar events happen, we might be forgiven if we said " Aiya..I should have done this and that, .I should have said this,Aiya..I should have taken this, and many other should haves.. In retrospect, we have many comments but what about dealing with the present moment. Warren Buffett once quoted "The rear mirror is always clearer than the windscreen" ..How truthful
Can we ponder the possibilities, ...just for a second, IF we were given a second chance, will our life be better than what it is now??

I don't understand the hype surrounding the man of seeming mythical proportions. People like David Beckham, Mike Tyson had his image tattooed onto their bodies and a number of people wearing T-shirts adorned with his image? He thinks: she is just another adult knowing fully well how to take care of herself and does not require me to worry about her. I expect her to be like him, I expect her to be an independent, self-supporting person and someone who can solve your own problems, he expects you to see him only when there are important matters i.e. life and death
You think: He is the world to me, whatever he does concerns me, if he is not well, I am not well too. it's not that i want to bug him all the time, it's just my good intentions to show that i care for him. I want to make sure that he is happy. When he is unhappy, I want him to share with me. I want to shower him with all my care,if possible I will call him on the phone to0 tell him I love him and I miss him lots and lots. It is not that I don't care about others ( friends, family, career) but he stands out as my top priority, so he deserves my attention, I am treating him very well because I love him and i want to live a happy life with him. I am treating you so well, and i expect you to give me (if possible) the same level of attention, if not the same level..80% will do, I will be very happy..if 70% still good but needs improvement ..if 50%, he is not very sensitive,,but ok la sometimes...if 30% - insensitive guy ..all guys are the same, anything less than 30% - he doesn't care about me, he only thinks about others but me, I am not the priority if 0% - BASTARD
